Offering therapy in California!
Hey there! I'm Anushree Belur (pronounced: Uh-nu-shri Bay-lur; she/her), a first generation South Asian American immigrant. My interests and approach to therapy is heavily influenced by my experience of navigating and balancing out my rich bi-cultural backgrounds that sometimes have opposing values and practices. I am a self-proclaimed "self-compassion advocate" and take this role seriously! I try to foster self-compassion and empowerment in various spaces, including therapy, friendships, relationships, and work. In addition to my private practice, I work at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Counseling Center, where I am a senior staff psychologist and the Goals in Action program coordinator. I have also taught graduate level courses at Northern Arizona University and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
My other professional interests include trauma, prevention services through outreach (read more on Workshops services I offer), de-stigmatizing mental health, and training/supervision and mentorship of new colleagues in the field. Get in touch with me to find out more information.
"If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete."
Jack Kornfield
I approach my role with the goal of supporting you by creating a safe place for you to process your experiences and helping you develop healthy coping skills to change unhelpful patterns of behaviors. I also focus on fostering self-compassion and empowerment throughout the therapeutic experience.
I primarily work with adults who have experienced anxiety, depression, imposter phenomenon, relationship issues, trauma, and grief and loss. Additionally, I enjoy working with individuals exploring their identities from an intersectional and multicultural perspective, especially while addressing intergenerational conflict and trauma.
My style of therapy includes integrating existential-humanistic and cognitive behavior therapy approaches along with mindfulness practices, as mindfulness has been shown to be effective in reducing stress and depressive symptoms.
I strongly believe that individuals are experts on themselves, and therefore, focus on tailoring therapy to meet your needs.
